Beauty Buzzwords: (Non-)Comedogenic

(Non-)Comedogenic

Have you ever encountered products labelled non-comedogenic and wondered what it meant? Well, we have and curious as we are, we did a bit of research which we decided to share with you!

A term starting with non- must have an antonym, right?
Right!
The term comedogenic is used for products containing chemicals that tend to clog pores & aggravate acne. As this is not exactly a highly sought-after quality in the beauty industry (obviously!), it is highly unlikely you’ll see this word on products or packaging but it pops up in scientific studies or reviews every now and then.

Non-comedogenic means the opposite: it is used on and for products do not block pores. So if you suffer from blemish or acne prone skin, look for products that are non-comedogenic.

Voilá, mystery solved!
